Today we have the pleasure to air Richard Hayden’s video presentation “Sloped and Complex Green Roofs” from our inaugural 2011 Greenroofs & Walls of the World™ Virtual Summit on greenroofs.tv and our GreenroofsTV channel on YouTube.
Dick is an extremely knowledgeable landscape architect with a quick and easy smile, and I’m sure you’ll not only enjoy his presentation but will certainly learn a lot as well with his years of experience at American Hydrotech. He speaks about the unique challenges associated with unique building pitches and shapes, and highlights the Lace Elementary School; Tyner Interpretive Center; H2 Hotel; ASLA HQ; Macallen Building; Vancouver Convention Centre; and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts’ Hypar Pavilion, which we have featured as our Greenroof Project of the Week in honor of showing Dick’s video.
American Hydrotech has been one of Greenroofs.com‘s oldest and staunchest supporters and advertisers, and we are very happy that they sponsored our inaugural 2011 Greenroofs & Walls of the World™ Virtual Summit as our Emerald Sponsor.
Richard C. Hayden, RLA, ASLA, CLARB, is the Garden Roof Department Manager at American Hydrotech, Inc. Based in Chicago, Illinois, he’s been a practicing landscape architect for more than 30 years and has been involved in a wide variety of projects across the U.S. He’s been involved in green roofs, green plazas and green infrastructure in his array of projects that include public and private buildings, bridges, streetscapes and large infrastructure projects. American Hydrotech, Inc. ®, is a recognized leader in the development, production and distribution of premium waterproofing and roofing products since 1977. Since its first green roof in 1996, American Hydrotech has been expanding its Garden Roof presence with more than 1,400 projects representing over 7 million sf of Garden Roof installations.
In Richard’s “Sloped and Complex Green Roofs” he proposes that no longer are green roofs relegated to the world of flat roofs. Architects and designers are discovering the nearly unlimited design potential of incorporating green roofs as an integral part of the composition of the building. From simple sloped roofs to complex combinations of curves and planes, green roofs are being blended with architecture in very unique ways. This presentation outlines the challenges and solutions to helping architects and designers meet their design intent for their buildings. Examples of a variety of sloped green roofs from around the United States will be explored to outline the technical solutions that were developed by American Hydrotech to achieve the desired result. Architects and designers will be able to see that their imagination is the only limiting factor in blending green into their designs.
