The Flour Sack Flats, located in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood, is in the historic St. Anthony Falls area. The city?s old milling district has been transformed into one of the most dynamic and thriving destinations in Minneapolis. New housing, the Mill City Museum and the Mill Ruins Park have reinvigorated the riverfront.
As a ?green-oriented? project, the developers of the Flour Sack Flats have taken care to design an environmentally sensitive building. Besides an ?extensive? green roof covering the parking area, the flats will feature several sustainable materials, including Marmoleum, bamboo, natural wool carpeting, high quality Kohler plumbing fixtures and energy-efficient Whirlpool Gold appliances.”
The extensive greenroof is being designed by Damon Farber Associates, a Minneapolis landscape architecture and urban design firm, and will cover the building?s second floor parking area. The shallow layer of vegetation is designed to filter stormwater runoff and reduce energy expenses.
