If you are in the market for creating ecologically diverse greenroofs with butterflies and other beneficial insects, make sure to watch “Pollinators on the Parapets” by Angie Durhman from our Greenroofs & Walls of the World Virtual Summit 2015 ~ Connecting the Planet with Living Architecture: People, Projects & Design above or on our VS2015 Virtual Summit 2015 playlist on our GreenroofsTV channel on YouTube.
It’s been a year since we concluded our third Greenroofs & Walls of the World Virtual Summit, and as promised, we are now releasing the 23 videos from our 30+ international speakers to the general public.
Angie Durhman of AD Greenroof (and previously Tecta America), is an excellent example of early female leadership and entrepreneurship in our living architecture community. Although her Master’s studies in horticulture at Michigan State prepared her for green roof plant performance and environmental sustainability, she is just as masterful all aspects of the greenroofing industry, from the green arts through the black.
In her 2015 Virtual Summit video Angie defines pollinators (honeybees, butterflies, and native bees, among others) and discusses the problems they have been facing over the last few years (such as pathogens, pesticides including neonicotinoids, loss of habitat and more). She also presents a wide range of research including irrigation options and offers an in-depth case study of semi-intensive greenroofs covering over two acres on two areas on a building outside of Omaha, Nebraska.
