I was searching for a solution for one of my clients, then came across your very interesting blog. Never heard about green roof before and very nice concept. A few questions though, is it costly? can it withstand hailstorms and rains? Can it last long with out any maintenance?
Linda Velazquez
Hi John, the answers vary, but in general, yes they are more expensive because they protect the actual integrity of the roof with many layers, including the growing medium (engineered soil) and plants. Yes, if properly installed with the correct detailing and guidelines plus regular maintenance, they should withstand most weather events. And finally, in most cases every roof, greenroofed or not, needs some sort of regular maintenance.
