St. Louis, MO. – (March 6, 2020) – Green Roof Blocks manufactures roof garden modules and paks providing simple solutions for green roof systems. The Green Paks green roof system brings simplicity to green building for less money than other gardenscapes products. Each Green Pak is a completely self contained module made of a long-lasting, unique knitted high density polyethylene.
Green Roof Blocks is excited to introduce our newly re-designed Green Paks modular green roof system.
Green Paks are filled to four inches thick with our proprietary growth media. Each has integrated carrying hand holds and wind uplift ties like their predecessor. What’s new is the smaller 24” x 24” size that is lighter and easier to handle. The top face of the new Green Paks is made of biodegradable burlap.
No more cutting the face out to access the soil for planting. In fact, we’ve phased out planting with sedum plugs all together. We’ve made the switch to using pre-grown sedum mats. They are laid directly over the Green Paks and root as the burlap decomposes into nutrients.
“Our customers just simply love it. I think the combination of pre-grown sedum mats on top of our Green Paks is the way of the future…”

In the application seen on the video below, the drain core with root barrier was placed over the roofing materials and the edges were lined with slotted aluminum edging. The Green Paks were then placed on the drain core and shaped in place, smoothing the media to form a level planting surface.
The sedum mats are then laid directly over the Green Paks. Here you see the sedum mats in the form of 2ft wide, 6ft long rolls. The sedum mats are also available in 12” x 24” precut tiles. Both are easy to handle and are lush and fully grown upon arrival to the job.
Unlike sedum plugs that have a planting window from early spring to late fall, sedum mats can be applied any time of the year. This Brooklyn, New York project was installed the first week of February, 2020.
The new Green Paks and pre-grown sedum mats are the perfect marriage for fast and efficient green roof installation delivering instant lush green coverage from day one.

the installer is walking on sedums. not too good
Kelly Luckett
Some walking on the sedums can not be avoided. They will be fine. They’re a lot tougher than you think.

How is the maintenance of a cover like this?
irrigation is necessary, is it direct?
Kelly Luckett
Hi Jey,
Maintenance is minimal, but critical to the success of every green roof. For additional information, download the maintenance guidelines from the downloads page of this website.

Kelly, do you have any smaller paks, maybe 12″X12″? The 24″ size is more difficult to work with in my situation.
Or maybe you have ‘noodles’ that I can arrange side by side in the space to be transformed.
Last question: do you still have paks that I can cut into to plant my own mix of plants?
