Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, the industry association for professionals working in the green roof and wall industry is excited to announce the launch of CitiesAlive Virtual from October 21-23,2020! CitiesAlive Virtual 2020 will be showcasing the best in green infrastructure design, research and policy all with the underlying focus of how we can build back better to prioritize health and resilience as we recover from COVID19.
CitiesAlive Virtual 2020 will feature both online expert presentations from some of the world’s leading designers and in-person green infrastructure tours in cities across North America.
“The combination of small, safe in-person tours and outstanding online presentations is an innovative approach to CitiesAlive Virtual 2020 during the pandemic,” said Steven Peck, GRP, Founder and President of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities. “Through our network, we’ve been able to provide tours of some fantastic projects and we’ve combined them with the very best speakers from our Grey to Green and CitiesAlive events for the online portion of the conference,” he added.

The tours will take place on October 10th and 17th followed by a free virtual event focused on research and emerging professionals on October 20th. Given the impact of COVID19 on the job market, the emerging professional’s event on October 20th will give the next generation of green infrastructure practitioners a chance to promote their work through the CitiesAlive platform. It is important as an industry to support up and coming professionals.
“This is a moment, throughout the world, when the importance of the healing and restorative powers of nature is clearly felt through its relative absence,” said Matt Barmore, GRP, Chair of the GRHC Board. “At the same time, our access to natural environments is reduced by the restrictions of the pandemic. This gap is in need of being filled, and the need is both tremendous and urgent. Green infrastructure is an extremely powerful tool that can be wielded creatively to address this gap, and GRHC continues to lead the way in developing green infrastructure markets, in advancing the knowledge and understanding of green roofs and walls, and in ensuring a greener future for us all.”
From October 21-23, CitiesAlive Virtual 2020 sessions will focus on three distinct themes: The Economics & Finance of Green Infrastructure; Integrated Design for Sustainable Water Management and; Health & Wellness Resilience through Integrated GI Design. Keynote speakers including Herbert Dreiseitl, Bill Browning and Ken Yeang will discuss their latest projects and approaches to sustainable design theory and practice.
