2020 Plus a Look into 2021 Top 10 Hot List, 11 Categories, 11 Week Countdown
As promised since my 2020 Top 10 List of Hot RESILIENT Trends in Greenroof & Greenwall Design Plus a Look into 2021 video is perhaps for some, a bit long at just under an hour, we cut up my 14th installment of the yearly Top 10 Hot List into categories to make it easier (quicker) to watch.
You can see them all on our 2020 Top 10 List of Hot RESILIENT Trends in Greenroof & Greenwall Design Plus a Look into 2021 Playlist on our YouTube channel.
Greenroofs.com inaugurated the “Top 10 Hot List” in 2007, and the current 2020 Plus a Look into 2021 video is packed with extremely important, awesome, and inspiring projects located across six continents.
This is installation number one in the 11-part series counting down my yearly “Greenroofs.com Top 10 List of Hot Trends in Greenroof & Greenwall Design” by category, this year modified with the very important RESILIENT in front of “Trends.”
And new this year, for 2020 I’ve defined the Top 10 categories in terms of their Resiliency application.
Are you ready to appreciate some of the latest and greatest living architecture projects from across the global greenroof and greenwall industry?
Before We Begin…
Due to the serious nature of the pandemic and our political and cultural climate, at first I wasn’t going to include my funny examples for 2020, but then figured we all needed a bit of a laugh, right?
So, I always start with a couple of projects, which for some reason or another, just couldn’t quite make it into the Top 10 this year…
Olympus Tower in Utah is an indoor ag system with tall agricultural towers stacked with trays of wheatgrass.
…it’s space saving and…
…very productive, indeed! But who or what is the target market for this robotic system?
Although they’re saving land with this vertical farm, shouldn’t we just try and eat less meat and then we can reduce our methane levels? After all, it IS one of the main contributors to global greenhouse gases!
Also Not on “The List”:
The Survival Condo – With 15 floors, 200 ft underground it offers all the commodities found in rich people’s mansions and penthouses.
It has a wine cellar, rock climbing, a pet park and more. Its indoor farm can provide fish and vegetables for 70 people for as long as necessary…
…but this Doomsday Luxury Resort is an Apocalypse Not on “The List!” – not so much funny as just distasteful and wasteful, and maybe just interesting in a bad way!
Back to the Real Thing
Now, without further ado, let’s get started.
2020 Plus a Look into 2021 Top 10 Hot List Category #10:
Client Specific ‘Boutique’ Greenroofs & Greenwalls
This is a perennial favorite category of ours for those projects that are just too unique to fit into a specific category! Just WHAT are the projects’ driving factors?
Shiroiya Hotel’s Green Tower:
With almost a 1-story height differential, the surroundings mix a typical Japanese landscape with the many different sides of the buildings – just enveloped in green.
Real Dos (Royal Two):
Returning reflections of its striking glass envelope covered with multi-colored panels and its beautiful vegetative surfaces onto the neighbors’ glass-clad facades, the Real Dos is a plant oasis in the midst of commercial-area Lima, inspired by Peru’s rich textile history.
Dreispitz Nord / Migros:
83% of the Dreispitz Nord area will be open to the public while offering affordable living options to its residents – and a new middle school on top!
Maggie’s Centre Leeds
The innovative stepped building at Maggie’s Centre Leeds brings each section of garden planting into and over the building itself. Inspired by its namesake’s love of gardening, the many visitors are encouraged to participate in the care of the 23,000 bulbs and 17,000 plants on site.
The Hanging Garden or ‘Jungle Dragon Dance’
The Hanging Garden at C Future City is where technology meets nature with 46 species of tropical plants, for a total of about 2,250 plants. The suspended green ribbon sculpture wraps around the exhibition spaces and penetrates the glass towards the garden outside.
