Digital Blue Green Event
March 14, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm CET
The Scandinavian Green Roof Institute is going to host their third digital Blue Green Event
The events are always digital and free of charge, since we consider them very important and they should be easy to access. They are also recorded and uploaded to their website. Registration for the event 2023 will open shortly.
This time, we have decided for 2 different, but equally very important topics:
- Strategies for Urban Biodiversity
- Photovoltaic on green roofs / Biosolar roofs
We have in total 15 short but very interesting presentations on these topics, and we are going to present them one by one in the upcoming weeks.
First of all, we proudly present Erich Steiner MSc from Schweizerische Fachvereinigung Gebäudebegrünung, talking about green roofs and photovoltaic systems.
“By 2050 most of us will live in cities and urban areas. As a landscape architect and general secretary of the Swiss Green Roof Association over the last 20 years, I try, in my own way, to contribute to building green cities for the future. Since our future does not just happen but is directly the result of our actions and choices, I have my own dream of what is the green city of the future: “resilient and nature-inclusive, designed around natural features, self-sufficient in renewable energy and resources and largely run by solar power”. To live this vision, we need a comprehensive view and cross-sectoral cooperation that addresses our over-consumption of resources, the ongoing loss of biodiversity and the climate crisis! With “Green roofs and photovoltaic systems – a combination that creates added value!” I will share with you our Swiss experience of building solar green roofs and the prerequisites to make this combination function successfully. It is not a question of if we can do it, but how we do it and what is necessary to make the green city of the future happen.”
We are now happy to present Stephan Brenneisen from Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Departement, talking about designing and monitoring Green roof Biodiversity.
Dr. Stephan Brenneisen, is the ‘father’ of green roofs and biodiversity, having conducted research and led advocacy on this subject for more than 25 years. Dr. Brenneisen is the Head of Research Group, Urban Ecology, Zurich University of Applied Sciences. His initial research focus was on beetles and spiders and he has been instrumental in shaping green roof policy in Basel, Switzerland so that it is focused primarily on biodiversity.
This speech is about Designing and monitoring Green roof Biodiversity – From installation to succession and long term aspects.
