Geisinger Center for Health Research is a $21 million, 63,000 square foot building opened in March, 2007. Sunbury’s The Daily Item states, “…The latest innovation of the Center for Health Research was recently unveiled — a 4,400 square-foot green roof covering the south end of the building.”
In the article, Mitchell Leiby, construction manager for Geisinger says, “We will see more of this concept incorporated in future building projects, particularly Geisinger projects…Incorporating green concepts into the building is one of the many ways the center is attempting to become a showcase.” Geisinger is pursing LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
Situated over the auditorium, more than 8,500 plants adorn the green roof. In all, thirteen different types of plants include allium, chives, sedum acre and sedum floriferum.
